It’s fantastic to be here at Reading the Paranormal for the next stop in my Vampirerotique Summer Book Tour.
Payne is relatively new to the scene in the Vampire Erotic Theatre and he already has a few readers intrigued.
Payne is an elite vampire and the ultimate man of mystery. Dark and brooding, he keeps his distance from everyone and keeps to himself. He isn’t interested in connecting with people and does all he can to keep his name clean so no one will probe into his personal life. A man with secrets almost as dark as Antoine’s, Payne is challenged every day at the theatre and finds it difficult to work there, despite his casual and unaffected air. Having had his heart broken once, he has done his best to stay away from females and keep his hungers under control, but when a witch ends up on the stage of Vampirerotique, Payne faces his biggest challenge yet.
I’ve only had the pleasure of writing Payne in two books so far. He’s introduced at the end of Seduce, Antoine’s story, and plays a major role in Enslave, Andreu’s story. Things about him are revealed in Andreu’s story but as much as I would love to mention them while I talk about him here, it would be spoilerish to do so. Payne is fun to write though. He’s cocksure and arrogant, and very powerful, and he knows it. Throughout Enslave, he’s brash and smart, and doesn’t seem to have a care in the world. But what if the personality he projects is a defensive measure? Payne has darkness in him, born in his youth and carried in his heart for centuries. He’s defensive, elusive, and would rather be alone than be around people. I’ve mentioned above that life at the theatre is very difficult for Payne, but he’s doing it as a favour to Callum, who knows a little about Payne’s past and the hard times he’s been through. What Callum doesn’t know is that being around people is painful and being at an erotic theatre is a constant fight against his nature.
Payne is also extremely volatile, dangerous, and liable to resort to violence rather than negotiating to gain peace in any situation. He has instincts that he can’t fully control and a side to his nature that can take over and no place to call home. He’s alone, and while he may say that’s just how he likes things to be, I don’t believe it for a second. Payne’s past is as black as the bottom of the ocean and suffocates him just as badly as the crushing force of pressure found down there.
I’m planning Payne’s story at the moment, and he’s dark, wicked, debauched and oh-so-naughty, but he’s vulnerable too, and suffers over his past and the things about himself he cannot change or escape. I think readers are going to find Payne to be Snow’s biggest contender in the race for favourite hero in the series.
Payne’s story, Bewitch, is due out in early 2013, but may be brought forward to late fall 2012. We just have to see how cooperative he’s feeling.
If you like unforgettable characters, undeniable passion, and intense love and emotion, then I think you’ll really enjoy the Vampire Erotic Theatre romance series. Every book is packed with emotion, tension, drama and passion, guaranteed to satisfy even your darkest desires.
